Hi I am 20 years old and live in Brooklyn,NY. I am currently pregnant and my baby is due Dec 31st. I am currently staying by a friend house but when the baby is born I would no longer be able to stay there. I get about $500 a month. My mom passed away and my dad was recently deported. I just need some advice on a way I can get housing and a little assistance on baby supplies and needed products. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Oregon Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/assistance/cash/tanf.shtml

Click the link to find out how to apply and where to apply for TANF in the state of Oregon.

Temporary assistance for needy families (TANF)

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides cash assistance to low-income families with children while they strive to become self-sufficient. The program's goal is to reduce the number of families living in poverty, through employment and community resources

To qualify for TANF, families must have very few assets and little or no income. The current maximum monthly benefit for a family of three is $528.

Applying for TANF

You can apply for TANF by downloading an application and instructions below.  You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view these PDF files. You can download the free software at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

These application forms should be printed and filled out by hand and then brought or sent to a local DHS Self-sufficiency office.

 English (PDF, 169 KB)

 Spanish (PDF, 1.46 MB)

 Russian (PDF, 335 KB)

 Vietnamese (PDF, 270 KB)

Other services

Many families in the TANF program receive help with needs such as employment, housing, child care, domestic violence and other factors that affect family stability.

Pre-TANF

The intent of the Pre-TANF Program is to provide initial screening and case management to families applying for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. This may include cash assistance as necessary to complete the plan and meet basic living expenses when other resources are not available.

Before Pre-TANF Program services begin, an assessment of the immediate unmet needs and strengths of the whole family is completed, eligibility is determined for Food Stamps and TANF-related medical benefits, and TANF eligibility factors are reviewed for presumed eligibility. A family may remain in the Pre-TANF program for as little as one day or up to 45-days, depending on the family's situation.

Pre-TANF includes an orientation on activities and services available in the local area. Case workers and other agency partners will assist clients in identifying family strengths as well as needs.  While in Pre-TANF clients will:

    *
      Learn about other resources that may be available, like child support or SSI (Social Security)
    *
      Use job search and job readiness activities to find and prepare for work.
    *
      Learn more about how to get the job they want.

In Pre-TANF, DHS can help pay for childcare and transportation while clients look for work. DHS can also help pay for items needed to start a job. Examples include uniforms, special tools and car repairs.

Post-TANF Program

The goal of the Post-TANF program is to provide parents who become ineligible for TANF due to income, a monthly grant of $100 for up to one year.  Post-TANF clients must stay employed and work a minimum number of hours per week.  This grant will help families with transitional expenses of employment.  There is an income cap of 250% of the federal poverty level.

Some other services that may assist families are:

    * Family Support & Connections
    * Alcohol or drug assessment and treatment
    * Child care
    * Domestic violence
    * Disability benefits
    * JOBS employment and training program
    * Housing
    * Mental health assessment and treatment
    * Medical care

The TANF program is administered by the Children, Adults and Families (CAF) Division of the Department of Human Services (DHS). All services are provided through local DHS offices.

Child support from absent parents

In addition, the Department of Human Services (DHS) works with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to help clients obtain child support from absent parents.  For help getting child support payments, contact Department of Justice.

CLICK HERE, CHECK THIS OUT

I was referred to this website a short time ago. At first, I thought it was a scam, but after learning more about it with research, I decided to spend the $10.00 to enroll in this Section 8  program.  I ended up being pleasantly surprised :)   You can prepare applications online and get on the waiting list for section 8 in several areas. This packet can really help those in need. All you need is to do is purchase the packet, fill out application correctly, and get approved after all info is put in.  It's great for those of you who do not want to, or cannot physically go/drive and apply for section 8.

There's even a site to receive help with a small grant. This grant will help buy groceries, put gas in your car or pay a bill. Mention that Christine616 referred you, and receive a $10.00 credit!  Well worth it!  Thanks everyone!

  Good luck, and May God Bless You!

Applications for the Section 8 Consolidation program are being accepted weekly online nationwide.   http://www.section8programs.com/

I am going back to school next semester and am trying to make a better life for my son and myself. I need some help though. I need a place to stay and do not have any income until January when I get my finacial aid. I do not want to go to the shelter becuase since I cannot work for another month due to recovery I do not fit in the criteria needed to stay in a shelter. I just need enough money for a couple months rent and my car insurance for 2 months. Please, if anyone can help me help myself and my son get out of this hell I will forever remember you and pray God will bless you.

assistance to secure a home for my family

I am in need of financial assistance to secure a home for my family. I need down payment and relocation assistance. I have a job waiting for me in Nevada with much higher income potential than I have here in michigan. My home is in foreclosure, and this is hurting my ability to obtain financing through traditional methods.

Want Baby's first christmas to be special.

I am a mother of a beautiful 8 month old baby boy.  Recently my sons father got into some trouble with the law, and was deported to mexico. He will not be coming back for a while, if ever. I dont get anything from him since hes gone. I am on welfare, but its not enough to take care of a baby and mysef. When he was deported, i had only the money i get from welfare coming in, which was not nearly enough to pay for our appartment.. I had no place to go..my father who lives in a senior mobile home community allowed me to move in with him temporarialy..because it is against the rules for me and the baby to live with him. Janurary 15th is my last day here. I am saving everything i can but its not going to be enough for security deposit and rent. What i need is help with a cheap appartment, mobile home....or if there is someone out there willing to rent a room to me and my baby..please let me know. Also..since i am saving money for our move..i am unable to buy anything for my son for christmas. I do realise he is to young to understand..but i understand..and it hurts thinking that , for my sons first christmas he will not be getting any gifts. If you can help...he is 8 months old..and he needs clothes (size 9-12 month), toys, shoes (size 2-3),  or anything that you would be willing to help me with. I dont care if its used..I only care that there will be somthing 'new' for him this christmas.

please help.
